We believe that the government should not be licensing a badger cull which is focused on allowing marksmen to free shoot badgers at night in the open countryside. Whilst the government and its experts have declared the cull to be safe we still believe that there are risks to the public and to people who are out looking for wounded badgers during the cull. In fact DEFRA themselves let slip that some protestors put themselves at risk in 2014 but then refused to explain how.
People joining our patrols and sett monitoring need to be aware of these risks and take personal responsibility for their own safety when out in the cull zones. Whilst we are told that the gunmen are well trained, we know many have missed their targets in previous years in some instances. There will always be risks when guns are being fired at night.
